Letters important for community

September 01, 2010 - (In response to 'And the survey says...' The Citizen, Aug. 21, page 6 and 'It is time to be public servants,' Aug. 28, page 6)

Dear Editor,

How refreshing it is to read Michael Hamlett's recent letters to The Citizen.

This is the kind of civic engagement my wife Bonnie wrote about in The Citizen: alert citizens involving themselves in the important matters of their community.

I am convinced that some of the figures and information you relate in your letter can be clarified with solid documentation. One example: it seems from your writing that you are unaware that I take no medical insurance from the township. Unlike the (township) clerk and the supervisor, I not only return the $2,000 annual stipend for declining medical, I also write a $202 check to the general fund every payday. These contributions amount to a 16 percent refund of my compensation back to Brandon Township.

Please do not take my word for any of the information in this letter. My office and my time are available to you as they are to any concerned citizen.

I welcome your visit to my office or a place of your choosing to exam documentation for yourself.

Let's plan on meeting after the holiday weekend.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Tyrone C. Beltramo

Brandon Township Treasurer
