September 08, 2010 - So far, the Varsity Girls Golf team doesn't mind moving to the Oakland Activities Association.

They moved to 3-0 in league play (2-0 in OAA White) after soundly defeating Lake Orion 202-214 at Boulder Pointe Golf Club on Thursday, Aug. 26.

The medalist for the Wildcats was freshman Kyla Kurczewski with a 44, while junior Claire Wolanin shot a 49 for Oxford. The third leading scorer was sophomore Hannah Beebe with a 50 and sophomore Riley Hayes rounded out the scoring with a 56.

"The kids did not play as well as they were capable, but they were still able to pull out the victory," said Coach Terry Kelley. "When you can do that, I think it is a sign that you have a pretty resilient group."

The girls followed up their victory with a second place finish behind Fenton at the Lady Broncho Invite in Holly.

Kurczewski again was the team's leading scorer, shooting a 94 in the tournament while fellow freshman Emily Cleland finished with a 102. Beebe shot a 105 and junior Lyndsay Hurford had a 107.

Oxford then proceeded to Pontiac Municipal Golf Course for the Oakland County Division two tournament, where Kurczewski shot a 71 and was the individual tournament winner.

Overall, Oxford finished third behind Cranbrook Kingswood (338) and Bloomfield Hills Andover (347). The Wildcats shot a 350, a tournament record for the Oxford Girls program.

The Wildcat's week of tournaments concluded on Tuesday, Aug. 31 with a third place finish at the OAA White Division's first of two tournaments on the year, which will factor into the league championship, according to Kelley.

Oxford finished behind Bloomfield Hills Andover and Bloomfield Hills Lasher.

The Wildcats finished with a 400. Kurczewski led the Wildcats with a 90. She was followed by Wolanin's 100, Beebe's 103 and Hayes' 107.

The girls lost for the first time this year to Lapeer West on Thursday, Sept. 2

West beat the Wildcats 177-189.

The girls return to the course with a showdown against Troy Athens on Thursday, Sept. 9 and a home date against Andover on Monday, Sept. 13.
