Brandon Township man charged after pulling gun

October 06, 2010 - Ortonville- A 20-year-old Brandon Township man is facing at least two years in prison after threatening several people with a gun.

Thomas George Shahin was arraigned Oct. 1 at 52-2 District Court on one count of felonious assault, a 5-year felony, and one count of possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, which upon conviction is a mandatory two-year prison sentence. Bond was set at $25,000 cash surety, no 10 percent and Shahin remains in the Oakland County Jail.

According to police reports, Brandon deputies responded to a residence on Cedar Street at 11:09 p.m., Sept. 30, after a woman called 9-1-1 and said a man was in front of a neighbor's house pointing a shotgun.

En route, deputies received information that the suspect had left the scene, driving down Mill Street toward M-15. Unable to locate the vehicle, deputies drove to the Cedar Street address and met with witnesses who identified the suspect as Shahin.

The complainant said that at about 11 p.m., she heard an argument at their neighbor's home. The complainant, her husband and their roommate came out and asked the arguing parties to quiet down, their children were sleeping. Shahin left, peeling out of the driveway. A short time later, he returned and the complainants looked out their window to see Shahin pointing what was later learned to be a 12-gauge shotgun at the neighbor's house. When one of the complainants asked him what was going on, he said he wanted to handle one of the guys next door, whom he was arguing with over a girlfriend.

A witness said Shahin pointed and waved the gun, threatening several people. It was determined that several victims at the scene were assaulted with the gun.

Deputies located Shahin hiding behind a trailer at a home on Sands Road and took him into custody.
