October 27, 2010 - Coffee hour

There will be a coffee hour at 9 a.m., Friday, Nov. 26 at The Citizen, 12 South St., Ortonville. The public is invited to enjoy conversation and sweet treats.

Road closure

Groveland Twp.- Tripp Road east of Dixie Highway will be closed Nov. 2 and 3 as the Road Commission for Oakland County replaces a culvert under the road. During the closure, the detour route will be Dixie Highway to Grange Hall Road, back to Tripp Road and vice-versa.

M-15 road rally

At 7 p.m., Nov. 4, the M-15 Coalition, a partnership of local units of governments, including area chambers and municipalities, and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), will host an M-15 Heritage Route Car Rally at the Davison Area Senior Citizens Activity Center, computer lab, Room 6, 10135 Lapeer Road (1/4 mile east of M-15) in Davison. Gun found

On Oct. 25, Michigan State Troopers from the Groveland Township Post responded to Oak Hill Estates after the manager reported a handgun in a resident's front yard. Troopers confiscated the weapon, a .32 caliber chrome revolver and determined it was unregistered. The mobile home's owners did not know any details of the gun.

Spaghetti dinner

From 4-7 p.m., Nov. 11, the Goodrich United Methodist Church, the Goodrich high school National Honor Society will be sponsoring a spaghetti dinner fundraiser to buy holiday gifts for area families in need.The dinner includes salad, bread, spaghetti, a beverage, and dessert. Adults are $7 and children under 12 are $4. Carry out is available.

Coat drive

Brandon Twp.- Help someone keep warm this winter by bringing new or gently used coats to Real Estate One, 875 S. Ortonville Road.

The 24th annual "Coats for the Cold" coat drive, sponsored by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, will be from Nov. 1-30.

"Coats for the Cold is an easy way for the community to reach out and help someone less fortunate stay warm this winter," said Sheriff Michael Bouchard. "For the past 23 years, we have worked with local charitable organizations to provide free coats to those in need. The community's generosity has been wonderful. We want to fill up every one of these boxes and PODS with coats and get them to the folks that need them."

Coats collected this month will be given to several different charitable organizations, who will then distribute the coats to those most in need at no cost.

A Portable On Demand Storage (PODS) bin will be located outside of the Real Estate One office for collection of coats. Details: 248-627-5414.

Business library

From 7:30-8 p.m., Nov. 10 the Brandon Township Public Library, 304 South St., Ortonville will host a grand opening of the business and career center. Current business owners or those wishing to start their own can check out books, information on data- bases, websites, reference resources, job searching, resume writing and interviewing.
