Kovacic breaks record again!

November 03, 2010 - Sophomore runner Brooke Kovacic ran her way into the Oxford cross country record books this past week.

She established the fastest girls cross country time in school history with her time of 18:30 during regionals, held at Goodells County Park on Saturday, Oct. 30. Not only did she set the school record, she secured her spot in the state finals, which will be held at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday, Nov. 6.

This was the second time in a week that she had established the school record. She set the previous record on Monday, Oct. 26 with a time of 18:39.

Joining Kovacic for the state finals will be junior Brittany Johnson, who finished regionals in 14th with a time of 19:45 and senior Dylan Smith, who finished ninth in 16:32.

In order to qualify for states, individuals had to place in the top 15 and teams had to place in the top three.

As a team, the girls finished fifth with 118 points, just missing out on going to team state finals. They finished behind Rochester (118 points) for fourth and Waterford Mott, (107 points) who finished third.

Rochester Stoney Creek and Lake Orion will join Waterford Mott in the finals.

The Boys finished seventh overall with 153 points. Finishing ahead of Oxford in sixth was Romeo (125 points) and Rochester Adams (124 points) in fifth.

Advancing to the finals for the boys were Rochester Stoney Creek, Lake Orion and Waterford Mott.
