Just love all those hunting stories

November 10, 2010 - Dear Editor,

In response to several of the anti-hunting letters that have recently been published in The Citizen, I'd like to first say that I enjoy reading the success stories of our local hunters and hope that you continue to publish them.

I especially enjoy reading about the success of the young hunters who have just begun this long, honorable tradition. Please do not let a few of these letters to the editor influence The Citizen into putting an end to these articles and photos. I hope I speak for the many hunters that live in our communities.

Secondly, I'd like to respond to some of the comments that were made about hunting and hunters.

I understand the feelings that anti-hunters have for the wildlife, but am not going to stoop down to their level and criticize their opinions or family traditions. For any of you that care to look up facts, hunters are some of the largest wildlife conservationists in the world. If it were not for the many conservation groups founded by so-called "blood-thirsty" hunters, most would not have the opportunity to ever see some of the wildlife that exists today. Also, please look up charitable programs such as Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger that helps keep the soup kitchens filled for families in need. When was the last time some of you anti-hunters have dropped a dime or volunteered your time to help protect our wildlife and their habitat?

Scott Conger, proud hunter
