November 24, 2010 - Bird Road closed
From Nov. 29 through Dec.13, Bird Road will be closed between Oak Hill and Bald Eagle Lake roads. During the closure, the detour route for through traffic will be Bald Eagle Lake Road to Jossman Road to Oak Hill Road and vice versa. Local traffic (traffic accessing homes or businesses within the closed section) will be able to use the road.
From 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 6, the Ortonville Chamber of Commerce will be host the Chamber Multi-Mixer at MacPhee's Restaurant, 650 S. Ortonville Road. The cost is $18 with RSVP by Dec. 3 or $25 at the door. There will be networking opportunities, dinner, a 50/50 raffle, door prizes and drink specials. The "Coats for the Cold" coat drive runs through Nov. 30. Bring new or gently used coats to Real Estate One, 875 S. Ortonville Road, and place in the PODS bin.
Toys and stories
Ortonville- "An Evening of Toys and Storytelling" is planned for 5 p.m., Dec. 5, at the Ortonville United Methodist Church, 93 Church St.
The benefit for the Community Christmas Toy Store and planned by the Ortonville United Methodist Women, features at least seven stories, some acted out, some with musical accompaniment, to be followed by a kid-friendly dinner of corn dogs or hot dogs, chips, carrot and celery sticken and cookies and milk. All ages are welcome. The nursery will be open for infants. Admission to the event is a toy or monetary donatioin to the Community Christmas Toy Store, which helps provide toys to low-income families in the Brandon School District. Call for reservations. Public budget hearing
Brandon Twp.- A public hearing on the 2011 township budget will be held at the next board meeting, set for 7:30 p.m., Dec. 6, at the township offices, 395 Mill St. The budget is available for the public at the clerk's office.
School board vacancy
Residents of the Brandon School District who are interested in being appointed to the school board for a partial term ending Dec. 31, 2011 should submit a letter of interest, as well as a resume to Superintendent Lorrie McMahon at the Central District Office, 1025 S. Ortonville Road, Ortonville, MI 48462. Letters and resumes may be sent via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Letters must be received by Dec. 1.
A special board meeting at which candidates will be interviewed is planned for 6:30 p.m., Dec. 6 and board members will vote for a candidate during the regularly scheduled board meeting, 6:30 p.m., Dec. 13.
