December 01, 2010 - As the new director of Physiotherapy Associates, Matt Glenn brings more than his prior experience and sports background to Lake Orion. He arrives with a specialized certification held by few, as well.

Located in the Bald Mountain Medical Complex on Lapeer Road, Physiotherapy Associates offers treatment in Sports Medicine, Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy. Spinal Care, Pre/Post Operative Rehabilitation, TMJ Therapy.

"We've seen patients from 12 years old, up into their 80s," said Glenn, noting his Muscle Activation Techniques certification allows him to focus on treating muscular weakness rather than the conventional treatment of treating muscle tightness.

The specialized therapy, he explains, helps patients achieve a high rate of success no matter what their goals.

"We take a hands-on approach for evaluating and treating the whole body," said Glenn, noting each patient is treated as an individual with specific needs. "That's the big difference - lots of one-on-one to treat imbalances in the body."

The result? Increased function and decreased pain.

"We focus on a person's weaknesses and limitations," he said. "We don't generalize anything or send people to the gym with a list of exercises; just performing exercises is not the same as the manual treatment of the human body."

Glenn graduated from Central Michigan University with a Doctorate in physical therapy and earned his certification as a Muscle Activation Techniques specialist after an additional year of training.

While he and fellow clinician Mike Vito approach patients with the same dedication to individualized treatment, each takes something of a different path to help patients reach their goals.

Vito received his Master's in physical therapy from Oakland University, and also earned an Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Certification from OU.

He is an APTA certified clinical instructor, and also works with the University of Michigan football team and the Detroit Red Wings.

Free injury consultation is available, and the clinic offers membership to its gym for anyone who wishes to work out or continue an exercise program following therapy.
