Brandon man sentenced in felonious assault with gun

December 15, 2010 - A 20-year-old Brandon Township man will serve one year in jail after pleading guilty to felonious assault.

Thomas George Shahin was sentenced Dec. 13 by Sixth Circuit Court Judge Martha Anderson. In addition to the jail time, he also received two years of probation and must participate in mental health treatment and anger management.

According to police reports, Brandon deputies responded to a residence on Cedar Street at 11:09 p.m., Sept. 30, after a woman called 9-1-1 and said a man (later determined to be Shahin) was in front of a neighbor's house pointing a shotgun.

The complainant said that at about 11 p.m., she heard an argument at their neighbor's home and asked them to quiet down. One of the parties involved was Shahin, who left. A short time later, he returned and the complainants looked out their window to see Shahin pointing what was later learned to be a 12-gauge shotgun at the neighbor's house.

A witness said Shahin pointed and waved the gun, threatening several people. It was determined that several victims at the scene were assaulted with the gun.
