December 22, 2010 - Nearly 70 people walked through the door last Thursday night at Christina Calka's grand opening for her new store, "Village Fashion Boutique," in downtown Clarkston at 6 S. Main Street.

"It was fabulous," Calka said. "We had a lot of support from the people and other businesses in Clarkston, so it was nice. Everybody came out and supported me on my grand opening."

The event included an assortment of food and drinks.

"Who doesn't like to have a party," she said.

The boutique carries a variety of brands including Brighton Collectables, Not Your Daughter's Jeans, Chalet, Geography Sweaters, Vovelo, and Big Buddha.

"It's very trendy, good gift ideas and affordable prices," said shopper Carolyn Vanderkieboom.

Calka has a very "sparkly theme" throughout the store. Her mother Anne said Christina "loved sparkles all growing up."

According to Anne, Christina even asked her kindergarten teacher to call her Sparkles.

"That was her name all through kindergarten," Anne said. "We all say that should have been the name of the boutique – 'Sparkles' because it fits her to a T."

As far as the grand opening, Christina said she was "very thankful" for all the people who showed both support and interest in her new store.
