(click for larger version) | December 22, 2010 - Dogs and cats eagerly waiting to be adopted into a loving home will have a merrier Christmas this year thanks to the students at Daniel Axford Elementary.
Last week, the kids held a special "hat day" fund-raiser that generated a grand total of $237.40 for the Michigan Animal Rescue League in Pontiac.
The idea for the fund-raiser came from first-grader Marie LaFond. She wrote DA Principal Joyce Brasington the following heartfelt letter:
Dear Mrs. Brasington,
For Christmas, I want to help the scared and homeless animals at Michigan Animal Rescue League. Can you help me? Can we have a loose change collection to make the animals feel loved at Christmas? I know this would make them feel better as they would have food and toys.
Love, Marie
We applaud LaFond for her compassion and her desire to help our four-legged friends. Here's hoping Santa Claus puts a little something extra in her stocking this year.
