Brandon senior dinner successful

December 22, 2010 - To the Editor:

On behalf of the Brandon School District, thank you to all the businesses, groups, families and individuals who partnered with the district to put on this year's Annual Senior Citizens Thanksgiving Dinner.

More than 200 people attended the event on Nov. 18 at Brandon Middle School.

The gathering was made more memorable because of contributions from Willow Pointe, Wojo's Greenhouses, the Brandon Woodworkers, and families and district staff who generously donated items that were given away as presents.

The Citizen newspaper was also very generous in providing coverage before and of the event.

We also had several families, students from Brandon Alternative High School, Brandon High School National Honor Society, Brandon High Student Council, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and others who helped serve the dinner and clean up.

The VFW Post in Ortonville presented the Colors and led the Pledge of Allegiance, and members of St. Anne's Church sang Christmas songs while everyone enjoyed their dinner.

Thanks also to the Brandon School District Food Services Director, Suzanne Evenson and her capable staff that prepared more than 250 meals for the afternoon. Students at Belle Ann, Harvey-Swanson and Oakwood elementary schools designed, colored and offered an array of different placemats for the seniors' enjoyment.

My heartfelt thanks to anyone and everyone that helped, and I hope I haven't missed anyone.
