January 19, 2011 - Coffee hour

At 9 a.m., Jan. 28, The Citizen, 12 South St., will host a coffee hour. The public is invited to attend and enjoy treats and conversation. Donations for OCEF will be accepted. Details: 248-627-4332.

Goodrich School Board

The deadline to file petitions to be placed on the ballot as a candidate for the Goodrich School Board is 4 p.m., Tues., Feb. 8. Petitions should be filed at the Genesee County Clerk/Election Coordinator's office, 900 S. Saginaw St, second floor, in downtown Flint.The Goodrich Area Schools Board of Education election will be May 3. There will be two seats with four-year terms available, and one seat with a one-year term. All current seats expire June 30. To be placed on the ballot, a petition with a minimum of six signatures is needed or candidates can pay a $100 fee.

Low-income help

Brandon Twp.- A list of resources to help township residents who are struggling financially should soon be available on the township website,

The list will provide contact information for low-income residents to receive help on reducing their utility bills, obtain emergency relief, affordable rental housing and more and will also be made available at the township offices, 395 Mill St. Look for the list within the next week. Meetings Jan. 24

The Goodrich School Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m., the Ortonville Village Council meets at 7 p.m.

Relay for Life

From 8-11 p.m., Jan. 29, Bullfrogs, 2225 Ortonville Road, will host The Dirt Stewart Band, featuring Jeff Beane, Brandon Fletcher Intermediate School principal. Fifteen percent of food and beverage sales will be donated to Relay for Life. Details: 248-627-7755.


Brandon Twp.- During their Jan. 18 meeting, the township board approved the appointments of Ron Haase, Donna Ferrara and Joseph Dean to the township planning commission.

All three were current members whose terms expired Jan. 1. They have been reappointed with the new term ending Dec. 31, 2013.

The township board also approved the reappointments of Donna Ferrara, Stan Skibo, and Duane Getzmeyer to the Zoning Board of Appeals, as well as reappointment of Dennis DeCovich as an alternate. These terms also end on Dec. 31, 2013.

Special meeting

Brandon Twp.- A special township board meeting is planned for 6 p.m., Feb. 2, at the township offices, 395 Mill St.

The agenda was not finalized at press time, but Supervisor Kathy Thurman said issues that would be discussed include an employee appeal, township operations and protocol, and a SMART bus grant for the Edna Burton Senior Center.
