Mixed week for the lady booters

May 11, 2011 - This week was full of mixed results for the varsity girls soccer team as they went 1-2 last week.

They opened up the week with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss against Bloomfield Hills Andover on Tuesday, May 3. Sami Pastewski scored the Wildcat's lone goal in the first half, but Andover scored two goals in the last six minutes of the game to take the victory away from the Wildcats.

"They just flooded with five forwards and my girls sunk in to defend, but they didn't communicate," varsity girls soccer coach Larry Ferris said.

"We played a real good game for 74 minutes, but in those finals six minutes they hit one and then they hit another one," he said.

The Wildcats made up for their offense struggles against Southfield-Lathrup on Thursday, May 5 with an 8-0 win, recording their second mercy in three games.

Beth Downs, Amanda Roth and Chelsea Johnson led the offensive attack for the Wildcats. Downs had two goal while Roth recorded two goals and one assist and Johnson had a goal and two assists.

Other goal scorers for the Wildcats included Laura Peterson, Brianna Johnson and Paige Brinker.

On Monday night the Wildcats took on Lapeer East and fell behind 3-0 after 20 minutes and never was able to recover.

"They really took it to us right away," Ferris said. "They are a very fast, very compact team with good skill and they just put us on our heels right away."

Tuesday night would be a big game for the Wildcats as they hosted Lahser at OES, weather permitting. Gametime is 7 p.m. The Wildcats then travel to Hazel Park on Friday.

Oxford currently sits at 4-4-3 overall, and 3-1-3 in the Oakland Activities Association white division.
