May 18, 2011 - One by one Pine Knob Elementary fifth-graders poured a cup of dirt onto the newest tree in front of the school last Friday.

The tree was a gift to the school. As it grows, the students will grow with it as they attend middle school, junior high, high school and head off to college or whatnot.

The fifth graders spent the majority of the day at Sashabaw Middle School exploring the halls of next fall's adventure, along with other fifth graders from all of the Clarkston Community Schools elementaries.

Wendi graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint with a degree in communications. She wrote for the Michigan Times college paper and Grand Blanc View before joining The Clarkston News in October 2007.
