June 15, 2011 - Fewer than 10 percent of all VFW Posts are named an All-State Post and North Oakland VFW Post 334 has achieved that recognition for a second year in a row.

Post 334 received All-State for their 2009-2010 year and was recognized as an All-State Post again for the 2010-11 fiscal year at the VFW State Convention held recently at the Troy Marriott, according to Post Commander Ernie Baker.

Baker was named to the All-State Commanders team and received a white cap, which was presented at the State Convention on Friday, June 10.

The award was presented to Baker by Lloyd Putman, II, the VFW Department of Michigan Commander and Thomas Tradewell, the Commander-in-Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Post 334 received a number of awards at the State Convention.

The Post sold more Buddy Poppies than any other VFW Post in Michigan and James Hubbard, Senior Vice Commander of the Post, sold more than $3,000.00 of Buddy Poppies the top seller in the state.

A National Recognition Award was presented to Hubbard at the VFW State Convention by Steve Meredith the Chairman of the Michigan Buddy Poppy Committee.

Post 334 received additional awards and recognitions including the VFW Michigan Department's special award for the best POW/MIA program.

Additional recognitions included certificates for support of Cancer Research, Operation Uplink and Adopt-A-Unit as well as for Outstanding Participation in Youth Activities which included the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Young Marines.

North Oakland VFW Post 334 meets the second Thursday of every month at the American Legion/VFW Hall on East Drahner Road in Oxford at 7:30 pm.
