Fault causes about 900 to lose power

June 22, 2011 - Oxford experienced a power outage Monday that affected approximately 900 customers, according to DTE Energy Spokesman Len Singer.

Singer said the outage, which occurred around 5 p.m., was due to a "fault," which is defined as an abnormal flow of electric current.

A fault can occur when something comes into contact with a power line and interrupts the circuit, he explained.

"In layman's terms, it's like (having) an open circuit breaker," Singer said. "It's a matter of closing the circuit (to fix it)."

"Once they identify where the fault is it's a quick fix," he noted.

Power was restored a few hours later.
