Public hearing on tax increase
|
September 14, 2011 - Independence Township is considering a tax increase for safety paths.
A public hearing on the proposed .2471-mill increase is 7:30 p.m., Sept. 20, Independence Township Hall, 6483 Waldon Center Drive.
"We're just getting public input on it," said Clerk Barbara Pallotta.
The safety-path millage was reduced in 2009 to balance increases in other millages, said Finance Director Susan Hendricks.
At current rates, .2023 mills, the township collects about $272,000 a year – $1,700 of which goes to the Sashabaw Road Corridor Improvement Authority.
The increase would raise the safety-path millage to .4494 mill, increasing operating revenues by 122 percent from about $282,000 to $626,000.
The money would help finish safety path projects on Clintonville and Sashabaw roads and M-15.
