Swimmers get 1st league win
October 12, 2011 - On a night when the varsity girls swim team honored its seniors, they picked up their first league win of the season.
Oxford improved to 1-4 in the Oakland Activities Association White division after defeating Farmington 95-88 on Thursday, Oct. 6. During the meet, varsity swim coach Jackie Rank honored her three seniors - Grace Galbraith, Miranda Murphy and Claire Patrell - following the diving portion of the event.
The Wildcats also set three school records in the 100 Butterfly and in the 200 Freestyle Relay and 200 Individual Medley.

200 Individual Medley - Sophomore Haley Kornburger finished first in a school and pool record time of 2:14.74, which allowed her to qualify for the state meet in the event. Wilkins finished fourth and junior Sammi Kurk was fifth for the Wildcats.

According to Rank, Kornburger has made the cut in seven of eight individual events, and is part of the one relay team that qualified for states.
"I believe that before the end of the season, the 200 Freestyle relay of Curtis, delaPaz, Patrell and Kornburger has a good shot at making the state cut," Rank added.
Up next for the girls is a meet at Rochester High School on Thursday, Oct. 13.
