CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF ORION

To the Qualified Electors of Orion Township, Oakland County, Michigan:

Notice is hereby given that Monday, July 9, 2012 is the last day to register to vote or change your address for the August 7, 2012 Primary Election.

If you are not currently registered to vote or have changed your address in Orion Township,

please note the following locations and times for voter registration listed in this notice. Qualified electors may register to vote or change their address in one of the following manners:

At the Orion Township Clerk's office, 2525 Joslyn Road, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or at the office of any County Clerk during normal business hours;

At any of the Secretary of State branch offices located throughout the State during normal business hours;

At the specified agency for clients receiving services through the Family Independence Agency, the Department of Community Health, Michigan Jobs Commission, and some offices of the Commission for the Blind;

At the military recruitment offices for persons enlisting in the armed forces.

By obtaining and completing a Mail-In Voter Registration Application at the Township Clerk's office and forwarding it to the election official directed on the application by the close of registration deadline.

THE AUGUST 7, 2012 PRIMARY ELECTION WILL BE CONDUCTED IN ALL VOTING PRECINCTS OF ORION TOWNSHIP, FOR THE PURPOSE OF NOMINATING CANDIDATES OF ALL PARTICIPATING PARTIES FOR THE FOLLOWING OFFICES:

CONGRESSIONAL United States Senator and Representative in Congress

LEGISLATIVE Representative in State Legislature

COUNTY County Executive, Prosecuting Attorney, Sheriff, Clerk/Register of Deeds, Treasurer, Water Resources Commissioner and County Commissioner

JUDICIAL Judge of Circuit Court 6th Circuit Non-Incumbent Position

TOWNSHIP Supervisor, Clerk, Treasurer, and Trustees

AND FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING DELEGATES TO COUNTY CONVENTION OF THE REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRATIC PARTIES

AND FOR THE PURPOSE OF VOTING ON THE FOLLOWING PROPOSALS:

OAKLAND COUNTY ART INSTITUTE AUTHORITY MILLAGE

The Oakland County Art Institute Authority established pursuant to Public Act 296 of 2010 to allow for continuing support of art institute services for the students, residents and visitors of Oakland County. The law allows the Authority to seek authorization from the electors to levy a tax of not more than 0.2 mill (20 cents per $1,000 of taxable value) on real and personal property to provide revenue to an art institute services provider for this purpose. Accordingly, to continue providing art institute services to benefit the residents of Oakland County, shall a 0.2 mill on all of the taxable property located within the County be imposed for a period of ten (10) years, being years 2012 through 2021? It is estimated that if approved and levied, this new millage would generate approximately $9,847,191 in 2012.

PROPOSED FIRE MILLAGE RENEWAL

Shall the Charter Township of Orion be authorized to continue the previously authorized levy of .9916 mills for a period of 4 years beginning December 2012 and expiring December 2015 to provide fire protection services for the operation and maintenance of the Orion Township Fire Department, including the purchase of equipment and buildings to serve the Charter Township of Orion and the Village of Lake Orion? Approval of this proposal would authorize the levy of approximately $.9916 per $1,000 of taxable value on all property in the Township and the Village of Lake Orion. It is estimated that this proposal would result in authorization to collect approximately $1,297,750 in the first year if approved and levied. A property with taxable value of $50,000 would be taxed $49.58 for the millage.

PROPOSED POLICE MILLAGE RENEWAL

Shall the Charter Township of Orion be authorized to continue the previously authorized levy of 1.9832 mills for a period of 4 years beginning December 2012 and expiring December 2015 to provide police protection services; including equipment, operating costs, officer quarters and personnel costs in the Township? Approval of this proposal would authorize the levy of approximately $1.98 per $1,000 of taxable value on all taxable property in the Township and the Village of Lake Orion, a portion of which will be disbursed to the Village of Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority and the Village of Lake Orion. It is estimated that this proposal would result in authorization to collect approximately $2,425,440 in the first year if approved and levied. A property with taxable value of $50,000 would be taxed $99.16 for the millage.

PROPOSED POLICE MILLAGE

Shall the Charter Township of Orion be authorized to levy an additional 1.0168 mills for a period of 4 years beginning December 2012 and expiring December 2015 to provide police protection services; including equipment, operating costs, officer quarters and personnel costs in the Township? Approval of this proposal would authorize the levy of approximately $1.02 per $1,000 of taxable value on all taxable property in the Township and the Village of Lake Orion, a portion of which will be disbursed to the Village of Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority and the Village of Lake Orion. It is estimated that this proposal would result in authorization to collect approximately $1,237,305 in the first year if approved and levied. A property with taxable value of $50,000 would be taxed $50.84 for the millage.
