Trottin’ for turkeys

November 10, 2010

Ryan Gillespie was the first runner to cross the finish line at this year’s Turkey Trot. He ran the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 50 seconds.
They trotted for their health.

They trotted for the fun of it.

But most of all, they trotted for turkeys.

A total of 90 runners and walkers participated in this year's "Turkey Trot" held Saturday at Seymour Lake Township Park.

Conducted by the Oxford Township Parks and Recreation Department, the annual event consists of folks either running a 5-kilometer course or walking a 2-kilometer route.

First place finishers in each age category received a frozen turkey, compliments of the Oxford Meijer.

A total of 21 birds were given away this year. The only thing colder than the turkeys were the participants and spectators.
