Coffee hour

At 9 a.m., Aug.26, The Citizen, 12 South St., will host a coffee hour. The public is invited to attend and enjoy treats and conversation. Donations for OCEF will be accepted. Details: 248-627-4332.

Chamber picnic cancelled

The Chamber Picnic that was scheduled for noon to 3 p.m., Aug. 20 at Brandon Township Park has been cancelled. Details: Ortonville Chamber, 248-627-8079.

Best of the Best Winners

The Citizen's Best of the Best 2011 prize winners include first place winner Amber Schram, who was awarded a $100 gift card. Second place went to Vita Dobson, who received a $50 gift card. Toney Dean won third place and was awarded a $25 gift card.


Goodrich-The village council voted 3-0 on Monday night to move forward with a new website.

Council members Phil Jackson and Rick Horton were absent.

At a cost of $500 per year, the village will contract with I.T. Right of Bath, Mich., to build and maintain a village website which will feature videos of council meetings, agendas and a location for residents to e-mail the village with questions or concerns. The meetings will be video recorded by ET Video for a cost of $100 per meeting. Currently the meetings are on Comcast Channel 17.

Blessings in a Backpack

A golf outing to raise funds for the Blessings in a Backpack program is planned for Aug. 22 at the Oakhurst Golf and Country Club in Clarkston. The members-only club is opening its links to golfers participating in the benefit. A $150 fee per person includes lunch, 18 holes of golf, and dinner at Oakhurst.

The national program in which students in need are sent home with kid-friendly food every weekend during the school year will happen in the Brandon School District for the 2011-12 school year.

Golfers, volunteers, and hole sponsors are needed for the golf outing. Register by Aug. 15 by calling Tom at 248-740-7600 or e-mailing, or contact Pam at
