August 17, 2011

A 19-year-old Goodrich man died Aug. 18 as a result of injuries he suffered after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into trees early Aug. 13 according to the Lapeer County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff investigators reported that Tyler Bonner was traveling alone about 12:50 a.m., Aug. 13 within a group of four cars headed back from festivities associated with the Woodward Dream Cruise when Bonner, who was driving a 2011 Ford Focus, left the roadway while on a curve. He went into the ditch, struck several trees and overturned.

Bonner was not wearing a seatbelt according to the report. He was airlifted to Hurley Medical Center where he died. A second vehicle also went into the ditch, but no one in that vehicle was injured.

Hegel Road was closed for three hours for rescue and investigative purposes. The Lapeer County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Hadley Township Fire Department.

The traffic crash remains under investigation.
