Martian Pink Pride Benefit game Sept. 16

August 24, 2011

Goodrich High School football coach Tom Alward is seeing pink in the new season.

In honor of Al Martus, former Goodrich Athletic Director who passed earlier this year of cancer and the fight against cancer, varsity football players will wear pink jerseys with the names of relatives and members in the community who have been affected by cancer inscribed on the back in the game Sept. 16 against LakeVille High School.

"They wanted to do something to help people with this devastating disease and honor his memory," said Alward. "They decided to do a benefit game."

Prior to the game, a survivor's walk will be held for anyone who has been touched by cancer.

The auction will be held at the Bullring Sports Grille, 8234 State Road, Goodrich at 7 p.m., Aug. 30 where those interested may bid on an available jersey.

Those planning to attend the game, "Martian Pink Pride" shirts will be for sale throughout Goodrich. Free admission to the game will be offered to those who arrive wearing the shirt. Details: 810-591-2251.
