Oxford’s gone to the dogs!

September 28, 2011

Drew Flury, 3, of Rochester Hills, pets Rascal, a 6 or 7-month-old fox terrier who’s waiting for a home. He’s available for adoption through the K-9 Stray Rescue League, which is located at 2120 Metamora Rd. in Oxford.
Canines of all shapes, sizes and breeds took over downtown Oxford's Centennial Park Sunday as the Art Capsule Gallery & Frame hosted its first annual "Dog Day Afternoon and Next Top Doggie Model Contest."

A total of 31 pooches entered the contest.

Photos and video of them all are posted at www.facebook.com/artcapsule. Members of the public are invited to vote for their favorite pooch on-line through Sunday, Oct. 2.

The winner will be announced Oct. 3.

The lucky canine will receive a free 12-inch-by-9-inch portrait of him or herself painted by one of two artists – Linda Hodge or Bernice Hadella. As part of the prize ArtCapsule Gallery & Frame will frame the portrait at no charge. The prize is a $350 value.

Dogs without homes also benefited from the event as it raised $150 for the Oxford-based K-9 Stray Rescue League.
