Amending Ordinance #113-11

to Ordinance 113, Pension Plan, Administration and Health Care

The Charter Township of Brandon has had the 1st reading of the Amending Ordinance #113-11 at a Regular Brandon Township Board Meeting of December 5, 2011. The 2nd reading of the ordinance amendment will take place at the Regular Brandon Township Board Meeting of December 19, 2011 at 7:30p.m.

Section 6. MEMBERSHIP RETIREMENT PLAN

(C) Membership and credited service shall be determined in accordance with the provisions outlined in the MERS Plan Document.

Section 13. MEDICAL PLAN. There is hereby created for the Township employees and full time elected officials, (excluding Trustees) a medical plan. For purposes of such plan the Township supervisor and Township clerk are hereby authorized to contract in the name of the Township (subject to recommendation by the Oversight Committee and approval by the Township Board) with any company authorized to transact such business within the State of Michigan for medical insurance coverage, to the extent consistent with the resolutions of the Township Board.

(A) Eligibility.

a. Each employee shall be eligible for coverage while so employed if he/she then meets the following requirements:

1. He or she has completed at least 30 days of continuous employment with the Township.

2. His or her age at their nearest birthday is at least eighteen (18) years.

3. He or she is scheduled to be employed 40 or more hours per week for 52 weeks per year.

b. Full time elected officials (excluding Trustees) are eligible for coverage while serving their term of office.

Section 14. EXTENDED COVERAGE. An extended medical plan is hereby created and established for the Brandon Township full time elected officials (excluding Trustees) and full-time employees. Any such official or employee who has retired with twenty (20) or more continual years of service and achieved age fifty-five (55) shall have vested continued medical coverage, at the cost of Brandon Township, consistent with the coverage in effect for current full-time employees. When said official or employee becomes eligible for Medicare, a comparable allowance or supplemental coverage to the coverage in effect for current full-time employees shall be offered.
