"She only knows long hair and wears a permanent ponytail," said Mary Carnacchi, her mother.
Katie, a student at Andersonville Elementary School, hasn't stopped smiling since, said Barbie Hensel, her hair dresser.
"It's a really big change for a girl who's only known very long hair," Hensel said. "With encouraement from her mom and me, plus some Swedish Fish, she agreed."
The non-profit Locks of Love provides hairpieces and other services to children suffering hair loss due to medical conditions.
