Finn remembered

by Phil Custodio

August 08, 2012

Zachary Daniel Finn of Clarkston died from injuries suffered in a traffic accident this past weekend. He will be remembered for his smile and sense of humor, said his uncle, Brian Varney

"And for being such a gentlemen and a good listener when you needed someone to talk to, and, most of all, being able to make time for his family no matter how busy he was with school, work, and friends," Varney said.

Finn, 18, was driving with two friends on I-75 when the vehicle rolled over near Dixie Highway in Springfield Township, about 6 p.m., Aug. 3. He passed away, Aug. 4. The passengers were not seriously injured.

He graduated Cum Laude from Clarkston High School, Class of 2012. He was on the varsity tennis team.

"He was also very good with children," Varney said. "He was all around the perfect package in a young man, we are very lucky to have him in our lives and knowing now he is watching over us as we did watch over him in life."

Finn loved snowboarding and cars – he just got himself a new one.

"He was going to show his new car to his grandpa in Woodward, at a car club down there," Varney said.

His friends and classmates have been very supportive of the family, for which Varney is very thankful.

"They took over the whole floor of the hospital, keeping vigil," he said. "They would stop over and bring food. They've been great."

Finn was the beloved son of Dan Jr. (Teena) Finn and Vicki (Rob) Harrington; big brother of Anthony and Mitchel Harrington; grandson of  Dan Sr. (Wanda) Finn, Brenda (Brian) Creamer, Sue (Michael) Maciag, Dale Ochenski, Tom and Jan Harrington, Max Hauxwell Sr. and Karen (Bob) Henkel; great grandson of Caroline Ochenski; special cousin of Shelbie, Abbie, and Kayla Varney; also survived by many other family members who will miss him tremendously.
