Kovacik beats out 136 runners

Oxford senior Brooke Kovacik bested a field of 136 runners to win the annual Oxford Invitational Cross Country meet last week.

Kovacik's time of 18 minutes and 19.6 seconds in the 5,000 meter run at Oxford Hills Country Club was nearly a minute ahead of the second place finisher, who was from Walled Lake Northern.

Kovacik's teammate Jenna Feeney finished sixth overall with a time of 19:51.1.

The Wildcats girls ran to a third place in the event, just ahead of Lake Orion. There were 15 schools competing in the girls' portion of the meet.

Other top finishers for the Lady Wildcats were Sabrina Smith, who was 20th, Reilly Squarcia was 23rd and Cristiana Bruce was 32nd.

Oxford's boys finished seventh out of 18 teams.

Oxford senior Ryan Gillespie finished seventh in the field of 167 boy runners. His time was 16:38.6

Joey Ufolla was 27th for Oxford and Noah Jenkins was 40th.
