On Monday, Oaktree Student Council, along with the assistance of school staff, selected their choice for the President of the United States using electronic voting equipment. Similar to the national media, the results were announced over the school via closed circuit television as the results were counted. Kelly Alford, third grade teacher, said it was a great learning experience for the students.

"The lesson was about the electoral college and how our voting system works," said Alford. "It ended up the students voted Barack Obama as president."

The third, fourth and fifth grade students tallied 250 votes for Obama and 242 votes for Mitt Romney, she added.

"After Oaktree finished voting Obama ended up with 303 electoral votes—exactly the number (of electoral votes) as Obama had in the real election."
