Letters of Thanks . . .

November 21, 2012

...for first responders

Dear Editor,

Special thanks to our own Independence Township Fire Department members (Ron Bray, Tom McDonald) , Oakland County Sheriff Deputy (McCann) STAR EMS paramedics (Long and Rachal); as well as Clarkston Urgent Care Staff (Sharon Larson, John Chenet, and Jeannie Ahlers) for their superb performance treating a critically ill child at our Urgent Care Center.

The child came through our doors unresponsive, Monday, Nov. 12. Thanks to the quick actions and combined effort of everyone the child was resuscitated and alert before being sent to the Emergency Room for further evaluation. I think we often forget how important our emergency services are until we actually need them. We should be comforted knowing that we have such skilled men and women serving our community.

Great job everyone!

...Garden Club

Dear Editor,

I would like to thank the members of the Clarkston Farm and Garden Club for all they do to make our town look so inviting. Every time I drive down Main Street I notice the attractive stone planters and seasonal decorations the club has placed in town. Right now it's Halloween ghosts that stand at attention over each planter and it's fun to see them waving in the breeze.

In addition, it is Garden Club members who maintain the wonderful gardens around the Independence Township Library all summer long. It must take many long hours of volunteer work to keep everything looking so beautiful. Thanks again ladies, your efforts add another level of charm to our historic downtown.

...election volunteers

Dear Editor,

During this season of thankfulness, I would like to take an opportunity to express my personal appreciation by recognizing township staff and members of our community who dedicated countless hours, support and energy in assisting the Clerk's office with the administration of four elections during 2012.

It was Clarkston State Bank and Rudy's Market who donated a grand total of 376 lunches to feed our Election Inspectors. I am "almost" sure that their generosity and thoughtfulness is what keeps our workers coming back year after year. Thank you!

Our election inspectors receive a small amount of compensation for their long hours on Election Day, which typically begins at 6:00 am and ends sometime after the close polls at 8:00 pm. After receiving lengthy training, they are the ones who serve on the front lines at the precincts on behalf of the clerk. Not only is their perseverance, knowledge and willingness to serve priceless, I have had the privilege of getting to know each and every one of them; they are a great group of people. Thank you!

Election chairs and co-chairs deserve special recognition for their willingness to take on the additional responsibilities associated with "being in charge." Their leadership skills and professionalism has allowed me as clerk, to concentrate on other areas of my election responsibilities on election day. Thank you!

Independence Township clerk donations

Dear Editor,

Our sincere thanks to you for your generous donation of two one-year subscriptions to The Clarkston News for the St. Daniel Parish's 21st annual Horn of Plenty Raffle/Auction/Dinner/Dance, on Nov. 3.

This is our parish's only major annual fundraiser, and the proceeds benefit our community out reach programs and services that we might otherwise not be able to provide. SO you have assisted the parish, our parishioners and our community.

We are grateful for your generosity in helping to make our event a success once again.

...dinner sponsorship

Dear Editor,

On behalf of HealthQuest Physical Therapy and Medical Fitness, the 2012 Golf Committee and our designated charities, Oxford/Orion FISH, English Student Enrichment Fund at Oakland University in honor of Jenna Balabach, and the Rachel Ring Memorial Fund, we would like to thank you for your dinner sponsorship to our 10th annual HQPT Charity Golf Outing.

Each year we strive to advance our mission of "Helping People Live Life Well" by reaching out to our communities. We are privileged to announce we rose over $17,000 in this year's event, which has been donated to our chosen charities. This money will positively impact many lives within our communities in the coming year.

Your support to our annual golf outing is greatly appreciated; truly our success is because of you!

Warmest regards,
