Total Nutrition in Clarkston hosted a packing party for troops overseas with Desert Angel, Nov. 27.

The volunteers collected enough items to send 76 care boxes to the troops, as well as three large boxes for military dogs serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. They also raised funds to send over 100 boxes.

Total Nutrition, 5811 S. Main Street next to Clarkston Post Office, is a donation location for Desert Angel, with boxes, mailing labels, suggested list of donations, and other items for care packages. Suggested donations include hygiene items, candy, pocket foods, dry cereal, and socks.

"It was such a good feeling to be able to send all of these packages overseas, but the best was when we received a note from a soldier who received one of our boxes, and he happens to be from Traverse City," said Linda VanHuylenbrouck, health coach at Total Nutrition. "That's a pretty amazing feeling to know you have helped make the day of someone so far away."
