Boots for kids

Oxford firefighters will be on the streets Saturday, Nov. 16 and Sunday, Nov. 17 conducting a boot drive to collect donations for the annual "Shop with a Hero" event Dec. 12 at the Oxford Meijer. This event gives kids in need the opportunity to buy Christmas gifts for themselves and their families.

The money is used not only for shopping, but also to purchase gift cards that the parents can use to buy food for holiday meals.

Attention shutterbugs!

Want to learn how to organize, share and create gifts using online digital photography websites? Then swing by the Oxford Public Library (530 Pontiac Rd.) on Monday, Nov. 18 for a free program from 7-8:30 p.m. Attendees will learn how to edit photos in Picasa, upload photos to websites and create gifts.

The Posse wants you!

The famed Lone Ranger Posse is inviting any and all interested cowpokes to attend a meeting at Casa Real (21 S. Washington St.) in downtown Oxford on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 4 p.m.

The posse is the planning committee that organized all of this year's Lone Ranger-related events including the movie sneak preview in July and the August parade.

Posse members are looking for eager volunteers, fresh ideas and useful resources to help with next year's events.

The meeting will be held on Casa Real's second floor. Hi-Yo, Silver!
