Grapplers bring home district honors

Wilkie won the championship round with a major decision over Oxford's Collin Campbell, 16-5, for his third win for the day. He also defeated Lake Orion's David Moore, 7-0, and teammate Ryan, 7-0.

Dionne also went undefeated for the day for 3-0 beginning with a win over Rochester's Nicholas Maier with a fall 2:54. He defeated Bloomfield Hills' Angelo Yousef with a fall 1:32 before going into the championship round for a 7-4 victory over Aiden Pierobon from Stoney Creek.

Slating won his championship match with a pin against Waterford Mott's Corbin Moorer at 1:57. Before the last round he defeated Oxford's Peter Economou, 4-0; and Rochester Adams' Sam Addy, 9-5.

Miller went 3-1 for the day for second place with a win against Stoney Creek's Drew Larson with a fall :22; another fall over Oxford's Bailey Kammerer, 2:57; and a fall against his teammate Nelson, :24. Miller lost to Oxford's Alex Hrisopoulos on a pin, 1:07.

Troutvine also went 3-1 for second place with win over Rochester's Richard Hamilton, 15-0; Oxford's Jamal Pettiford, 16-4; and Utica's Kyle Walker, 5-3. He lost to Oxford's Ben Line, 11-1.

Nelson went 4-1 for the day with a wins over Troy's Nicholas Gee, a fall :59; Rochester Adams' Dylan Howcroft in two rounds, 14-5 and 11-1; and Rochester's Noah Temes, fall 4:01. His lone loss was against teammate Miller.

Ryan finished 2-2 for the day with wins over Romeo's Brett Peterson, 16-2; and Utica Eisenhower's Vince Marceau, 10-3. He lost to Wilkie, 7-0, and Bloomfield Hills' Kajuan Caldwell, 5-1.

Foltz also finished with a 2-2 record for the day beginning with a win over Utica's Nick Mason, 13-3, and a fall over Cody Martin from Romeo, 2:10 during the consolation semi-final. He lost to Rochester Adams' Jake Anderson, 5-0; and Utica Eisenhower's Carlo Marceau, 2-1.

Masters started his 3-2 journey with a win over Waterford Mott's Mat Schneider, 6-4. He went on to defeat Utica Eisenhower's Alex Franks, 24-14, and his Clarkston teammate Nate Vandermeer, 7-0. Masters lost to Tevin Machart from Utica Ford II, 16-0; and Andrew Ellicott from Troy, 9-3.

Eriksen was 2-2 for the day with wins over Stoney Creek's Jon Quigley, with a fall at 4:51; and Utica's Peter Gjini, 5-0. He lost to Romeo's Seth Decent, 4-2; and Utica Ford II's Viktor Gegic, 7-2.

The Wolves began the week with a night of celebration last Wednesday as the grapplers honored their seniors and captured the MHSAA Wrestling Team District title.

"It was good," said Derek Moscovic, head coach. "It was a great accomplishment. They work extremely hard during the year and deserve to be district champs."

The Wolves began the night with a 57-12 win over Bloomfield Hills. They continued with beating Waterford Mott, 58-6, with wins from Eriksen with a void, Kas Waitkus (160) on a fall with :56 left in the first period; Stevan Franco (171), 12-6; Nevin Strayer (189), 6-2; Troutvine, void; Miller, a fall with ten seconds left in the first period; and Ryan, 15-1.

The boys won the next three rounds with voids for Wilkie, Foltz and Dionne.

Masters added six more points with a fall with 56 seconds remaining in the first period before Slater finished the night with a 10-5 win.

"Overall the whole team performance stood out - up and down the line," Moscovic said.

The team heads to Rochester High School, 180 S. Livernois Road in Rochester, for the MHSAA Wrestling Team Regionals on Wednesday where they will take on Utica Ford in semi-finals.

The winner moves on to the final round against the Rochester/Oxford winner for an opportunity to go to the state championship.

The individual district qualifiers head to Oxford, 745 N. Oxford Road, on Saturday where they will go against district champions from Rochester and Alpena. For live results, visit www.trackwrestling.com.
