I applaud and commend Kathy Thurman and the board for their phenomenal work in such volatile economic times. To be able to bring the general fund up to $679,795.00 when revenues have dropped by 27% is more than commendable.
It shows what a responsible arm of the government can do when they collaborate, and the positive effect they can have for us, our township, and us as tax payers.
Kathy Thurman has volunteered her own personal time without recognition to work on many community projects that not only bring revenue to local businesses but extra money for programs that would have disappeared without her fundraising efforts.
Did you know that Kathy Thurman was the event chairman for the recent M-15 Heritage Rally? That she participated in community builds at the Township Park and Harvey Swanson Fantasy Castle? Or that she is responsible for the creation of the Brandon Community Park Club whose sole purpose is to raise funds for park development that was previously funded through cell tower revenue?
Kathy is a volunteer for Teens and Seniors Rocking and Raking, and the Relay for Life, the Brandon Fireworks and the ‘Clean Team’ at her church. She had done various things for Oakland County 4-H, including taking her riding students to shows where she can spend up to 12 hours with our kids, supporting, encouraging and sharing her knowledge of the many areas touched by 4-H.
How many of you know that when the PE program was dropped at Harvey Swanson Elementary for 2 years that Kathy Thurman volunteered to teach PE and organize Field Day? Kathy has been a Soccer and T-Ball/Softball coach for the BGO recreation program, and served 8 years on a bingo team for Brandon All Sports Boosters.
You can find Kathy Thurman at almost every festival Ortonville has, volunteering, working a booth, or organizing the event. If you want a Township Supervisor that puts her community first, vote for KATHY THURMAN!
