Cletus Junior Board

Cletus Junior Board died Sept. 24.

He was 86.

Cletus was born in Fisk, Missouri on Sept. 7, 1926 to Lizzie Trammel and Curt Board. He was raised by his mom and stepfather, Johnnie Stanfill, a cotton farmer.

Cletus served in the 795th Military Police Battalion (U.S. Army), as a truck driver under General Douglas MacArthur in the Philippines Islands in World War II. After his discharge on Nov. 28, 1946 he moved to Ortonville to work at the Yellow Bus & Coach Co. (GMC Truck Plant) in Pontiac. He started courting his wartime pen pal and soon-to-be wife, Mary Jane Ellman.

Cletus worked for GM all his life, retiring from the Pontiac Motor Division after 44 years of service. He enjoyed being a gentleman farmer and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his brother, Charles Stanfill of Tyler, Texas; sons, Roger Dale (Jean) of Cass City and David Lee of Ortonville; grandson, Aaron C. (Holly) of Sarasota, Fla.; granddaughters, Tara Faye (Denny) Haley and Amanda Faith Board, both of Caro; and four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Riley, Lilah and Madison. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary Jane, who died Sept. 17, 2008.

A funeral service was held Sept. 27 at Coats Village Funeral Home, Ortonville. Pastor Todd Kelly of Christ Lutheran Church officiated. Interment at Ortonville Cemetery.
