Ellen Rae Phelan

Ellen Rae Phelan, of Leonard and formerly of Royal Oak, passed away peacefully on Jan., 24, 2013. She was 80.
She was born August 2, 1932, to Raymond and Winifred Gorrell in Detroit. She graduated from Visitation Catholic High School in Detroit. She married John J. “Jack” Phelan on April 28, 1951 who preceded her in death in 2007.
She taught piano at Sparks Music School in Royal Oak and then gave private music lessons from her home in Leonard. Ellen also worked at Community
Hospital in Almont for many years. Some of her other interests were golf, politics and ceramics. She was active in the Women's Auxiliary at St. Cornelius Church in Dryden. She was a wonderful cook, a dedicated mother, grandmother, spouse and home maker. Her personality was warm and engaging, her laughter legendary, and her smile quick.
She leaves to mourn her passing: four children and their spouses; Raymond J. (Jeannine) Phelan, of Rochester Hills, Mi., Theresa A. (John) Hart, of Lake Orion, Mi., John P. Phelan, of Leonard, Mi., and Andrew J. (Michelle) Phelan, of North Branch, Mi., and four beloved grand children; Paul (Catherine) Phelan, Brian J. Hart, Emily (Ricky) Thompson, and Kevin S. Hart; also five great-grand children.
Ellen was preceded in death by an adult son, Kevin P. Phelan and a sister, Colleen O'Halloran, both in 2003.

Mass service at St Cornelius Church on Jan. 30, 2013 in Dryden.
Interment at Lakeville Cemetery in Addison Township.
