December 16, 2009

The Lake Orion Dragon hockey team showed great improvement this week in taking on OAA league favorite Farmington Hills Unified Flyers (North and Harrison High Schools) and non conference foe Rockford Rams.

On Wednesday, in Farmington, the Dragons battled the Flyers deep into the third period.

The first period ended tied at 1-1. The Dragon goal was scored by Corey Hodge, with helpers from Shane Pettit and Shane Stockwell.

The game seesawed in the second period with the Flyers scoring a back breaking goal with only fifteen seconds left in the period.

The Flyers added two more late third period goals to finish off the 4-1 victory. “The score was not indicative of the effort we displayed tonight, the boys played very well and had several chances to score,” said Assistant Coach Nolan Howe.

On Saturday, the Dragons took their game to a new level, by shutting out the visiting Rockford Rams 5-0.

Brad Bogus got the Dragons on the board by burying a breakaway shot. He received help from Zachary Koonce. The second period saw the Dragons score twice on the power play. First, Brett Reed banged home a rebound with assists from Jessie Cameron and Danny Blascak.

On the second power play goal, the Dragons moved the puck well in the Rams zone and this opened up a shot from the point.

Sophomore defenseman Dylan Rosen did not disappoint, as he blasted the puck point into the net. Getting an assist on the play was Daniel Chapie.

The Dragons came out for the third period fully intending on increasing the lead. They scored two goals in the first two minutes of the period.
