Michigan Elk hunt

December 15, 2010

Brandon Township resident Mike McKnight, along with his son Mike McKnight, Jr. 35, a resident of Atlanta, Mich. were hunting in the central Montmorency County during the 2010 elk season.

“My son had put in for an elk permit since the early 1990s and finally was selected,” said McKnight, Sr.

The bull was sighted on Dec. 7 in Montmorency County.

“The first shot drew blood and we tracked that bull for the next two days, about eight miles north to Presque Isle County and back,” he said.

The six-by-six bull field dressed at 623 pounds and was the second largest bull taken during the December season, said McKnight.
