Bicyclist killed in accident

t 12:15 am on Friday, May 6, 2011 a Lake Orion Police Officer was operating a fully marked, Lake Orion Police Car on N. Park Blvd. (M-24) north bound at W. Flint St. where he collided with a bicyclist.

A 38 year old Lake Orion male resident was killed when he attempted to cross North Park Boulevard at W. Flint Street on a bicycle.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The Lake Orion Officer was not injured.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office crash reconstruction unit will handle the investigation. Alcohol is believed to be a factor. The crash remains under investigation.

The officer involved is a 24 year veteran of the Lake Orion Police Department.

“Police Officers spend their careers trying to help their community and protect life; this is a sad and heavy day for the officer and all the men & women of the Lake Orion Police Department. This is a devastating loss to the family and friends of the victim and our community, our hearts go out to the family of the victim,” Lake Orion Police Chief Jerry Narsh said.
