Lady Wildcats sweep Southfield Lathrup

The cold weather didnít cool off the Wildcat varsity softball teamís bats as they swept a doubleheader from Southfield Lathrup on Monday, May 16.

Oxford won 15-2 in game one and 19-4 in game two.

Leading 6-2 in the top of the fifth inning, the Wildcats struck for nine runs in the frame, eventually forcing the mercy.

Sophomore captain Autumn Cervantez lead the Wildcats with a double, triple and four runís batted in. Junior captain Cassie Edgemon had two singles, two rbiís and two stolen bases, while senior captain Alyssa Hurtado had two triples, one of which was stretched into an inside the park homerun after a throwing error by Southfield Lathrup, a double and three rbiís.

In game two, Oxford got the longball working as Cervantez and sophomore Nicole Allen hit their first home runs of their varsity careers.

Cervantez also recorded a double, single and four RBIís. Senior Amanda Boyer had a homerun and three RBIís and senior Courtney May had a single, double and three runs scored.

ďThis win was really good for our confidence at the plate and I couldnít be happier with the performance the girls put up,Ē varsity head coach Kristi McDevitt said.

With the wins, Oxford improves to 5-16 overall.

This week, they host Clarkston in a doubleheader on Wednesday, May 18 beginning at 4 p.m. Then they travel to Algonac High School on Thursday, May 19 for a doubleheader.
