June 01, 2011

A former police officer and code enforcement officer will be spending at least 71 months behind bars after being convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl.

Last week, Thomas Patrick Cupples, of Oxford, was sentenced to 71 months to 15 years in prison.

A jury convicted him of two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct related to his molestation of a girl on multiple occasions beginning when she was 11 years old and continuing until she was 13.

Cupples is a former Ferndale Police sergeant who retired in 2005 after 28 years. He worked for Orion Township as a code enforcement officer from 2007 until being terminated from that position in September 2010. He was arrested in August 2010.
