Firefighters hose cops 17-9

August 17, 2011

For 364 days out of the year, the Oxford Fire Department and Oxford Village Police Department work together to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.

But there’s one day when they put down their hoses and handcuffs, take off their badges and do battle on the field of honor at Seymour Lake Township Park.

That day was Saturday as the two local agencies squared off in the annual Smoke ‘N’ Cuffs Softball Tournament.

Last year, the boys in blue snuffed out the firefighters’ hopes of victory in a one-run, last-minute win.

This year, the firefighters cranked up the heat and consumed the cops in a 17-9 blaze of glory.

Somebody call 9-1-1 because we need to a report a rivalry.
