Coffee hour

At 9 a.m., Aug.26, The Citizen, 12 South St., will host a coffee hour. The public is invited to attend and enjoy treats and conversation. Donations for OCEF will be accepted. Details: 248-627-4332.

Hello, goodbye

Ortonville- Village officials invite the public to say farewell to retiring Village Manager Larry Brown and to welcome new Village Manager John Lyons at the Beets, Beats and Eats event from 6-9 p.m., Aug. 26, at Crossman Park, located next to the township offices, 395 Mill St., downtown. Cake will be served.


Brandon Twp.- Township residents can dispose of all large items during a cleanup planned for Aug. 27 at the community park, 1414 N. Hadley Road.

Acceptable items include any type of metal, appliances, grills, bicycles, water heaters, cars, fencing, furniture, cement, bricks, and more.

Appointments are required and can be obtained by calling the supervisor’s office at 248-627-4918. A fee of $10 per load will be charged. There is an additional fee for tires. No hazardous waste will be accepted. The cleanup event is facilitated by Bedrock Express, LTD.

GHS orientation

At 6:30 p.m., Aug. 25, the Goodrich student council will sponsor a high school freshman and new student orientation in the GHS Auditorium.

Students will receive their back-to-school packets, hear from student leaders and tour buildings. Hot Shot Photography will be at the school at 5:30 p.m.

Travel softball

From 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Aug. 21, Michigan Hawks Travel Softball will have tryouts for next year’s teams. 10U and 12U teams will tryout from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. 14U and 16U will tryout from 11 a.m.-1 a.m. There will be a $5 tryout fee. Details: Scott Salter, 248-925-7768.

Bible School

From 6-8 p.m., Aug. 22-26, the United Methodist Church, 93 Church St., will host an evening Vacation Bible School program. The theme is “Hometown Nazareth-Where Jesus was a Kid.” Details: 248-627-3125.

Lions Club golf tournament

On Sep. 10, the Ortonville Lions Club will host their 18th annual Larry Appleton Memorial Golf Tournament. The sponsorship fee is $50. Team spaces are still available. Details: Terry Rylance, 248-467-1855
