Leaves for garden

October 12, 2011

Rakers can drop off their leaves at Clarkston Community Garden, 9-11:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, and stay for a gardening presentation.

Jim Tesnar, garden manager, will discuss fall soil improvement and no-till gardening techniques at 10 a.m. From 12-3 p.m., volunteers put finishing touches on the Perennial Welcome Garden, a 1,000-square-foot perennial “cut garden.”

Flowers will be cut from the garden in 2012 and delivered with Meals-On-Wheels to those not able to leave their homes. Plant donations are also needed. A “wish list” for plants is posted online at www.itpr.org.

The Clarkston Community Garden is located just past Stickney Road off of Pine Knob on the Northeast corner. Call Independence Township Parks and Recreation at 248-625-8223.
