Letter to the editor - Money influences
December 21, 2011
Dear Editor,
I fear that campaign contributions have influenced the House and Senate in their votes to lift the cap on charter schools. Follow the money.
Governor Snyder’s fellow Republicans won’t even allow a vote on the New International Trade Crossing, which won’t cost taxpayers a dime and is supported by Snyder, all former Michigan governors, key Michigan job creators and corporate CEOs and the Canadian government—yet they say yes to for-profit educational management companies, which will siphon taxpayer dollars to out-of-state interests and weaken Michigan’s public school system.
When SB618 reaches the governor’s desk, I hope he’ll veto it. Charter schools have a place within our educational system, but this bill does not provide the necessary safeguards. Thank you.
