Seeking more Optimists

January 04, 2012

The Clarkston Area Optimists Club hosts an Open House on Thursday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. at Red Knapp’s restaurant, 6722 Dixie Highway.

Hors d’oeuvres will be served.

“Optimist members bring out the best in kids in the community," said Sue Ring, membership chairperson.

In 2011, the Clarkston Area Optimists supported Deer Lake Beach with a $20,000 grant, sponsored a junior golf tournament, hosted oratorical and essay contests for students and honored “Students of the Month” for good citizenship.

The Optimists helped organize the Clarkston Fourth of July parade and partnered with Independence Township Parks and Recreation on Friendly Forest at Halloween.

The club invites speakers to present interesting topics, Wednesdays, 7:30 a.m., and at two evening meetings each month.

Membership is open to anyone 18 years of age or over.
