Making a difference with her hair

January 11, 2012

Katie Carnacchi, 11, gave the gift of confidence and care for Christmas, donating 10 inches of her hair to Locks of Love.

“She only knows long hair and wears a permanent ponytail,” said Mary Carnacchi, her mother.

Katie, a student at Andersonville Elementary School, hasn’t stopped smiling since, said Barbie Hensel, her hair dresser.

“It’s a really big change for a girl who’s only known very long hair,” Hensel said. “With encouraement from her mom and me, plus some Swedish Fish, she agreed.”

The non-profit Locks of Love provides hairpieces and other services to children suffering hair loss due to medical conditions.
