OHS dance team places 6th at regional competition

January 11, 2012

This past weekend, the Oxford High School Dance Team made history by becoming the first OHS dance team to attend a competitive dance competition. The team took home 6th place in UDA’s Southern Michigan Dance Challenge held at Royal Oak High School in Royal Oak.

The regional competition included over 200 dancers and only awarded the top ten routines in each category. The OHS Dance Team competed with their jazz routine, “Titanium.”

The team’s head coach, Jonelle Pariseau, says that their largest accomplishment was their ability to beat out larger teams.

“Most high school dance teams consist of ten or more dancers. Our dance team, however, is made up of only six girls,” Pariseau said. “Our award is testament to not only the team’s amazing talent, but also their commitment to excellence, hard work and dedication to each other.”

The team’s next “challenge” will be to find a place to showcase their award among the numerous other sports’ awards at the high school.

“We are so proud to put the first dance team trophy on display,” Pariseau said.
