February 22, 2012

The Goodrich competitive cheer team finished third in Division 3 districts competition at Capac High School on Feb. 18. Richmond won the title and Pontiac Notre Dame Prep finished second ahead of Goodrich. Croswell-Lexington finished fourth. The top four teams qualified for the regional competition at Yale High School on Feb. 25. The Martians were one of 14 teams that competed in the districts.

Goodrich Cheer Coach Jaime Jakubowski said her team is ready for the regional competition.

“We’re a small team—yet we persevere,” said Jakubowski. “But these girls are very talented—they have the desire to win. They go out each day and put it all out there on the floor. Our practices are intense and like mini-competitions. “The parents and all the coaches have been great in making this season a success.”

Today’s competition at Yale High School will include: Columbia Central, Corunna, Croswell - Lexington, Freeland, Goodrich, Grosse Ile, Lansing Catholic, Monroe Jefferson, Ovid Elsie, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep and Richmond.
